reflection #6

With the advance technology this day, it is more convenient to access varies activities, assignment and programs. Those creations affect every aspect in our society. It would have taken about a month to communicate with friends and family a century ago. Now a day it takes only a second to communicate with the entire world. As our educational system tends to evaluate with technology, computer has a great effect on our student by facilitate them to have access at information. From this modern invention, educators come with the telecollaborative learning. What is telecollaborative lesson? How it could be beneficial for our student?
In order to succeed in life with all this technology around us, it is an imperative to inform us about what is going on in this world. That is the main purpose of the telecollaborative lesson. In this lesson, Student work more in a group, but with a wider vision. They are not limited environmentally which mean they will get the opportunity to communicate with others student through the internet. Different subjects could be attributed to the group. As I mention earlier, student in another country, city, school, etc. can be a part of the group’s activities. Teachers also are not limited to communicating with only teacher around them locally. They could give an assignment to a student that is located in any other country without necessarily being there physically. The important part of the telecollaborative lesson is that student is well informed of what is going on around them. Such lesson gives access to knowledge which is the key of success.
To summarize, telecollaborative learning is considered to be proportional to the development technologic. With the invention of internet, our kids are well informing because they have the opportunity to understand different techniques, customs, religions, and traditions of other student living in different parts of the world.

reflection # 5

In the last lesson (constructivism lesson), we saw that the students were responsible for their own success. The teacher was simply a guide. Participation was the center of the constructivism theory. In this reflection, our role is to define the collaborative model as well as the cooperative model. Is there any relation between them? How they function? How they could be applied in our school? In the traditional education system, teachers were the only one that has the right to talk. Student could talk only if asked. Theory after theory, model after model, the process of learning evolves. Let us now, what is it the cooperative/collaborative learning? Both of them proceed from the constructivist theory where understanding was revealed and changed into concept by student. In any team, the coach cannot take the player’s place. It is simply a guide for them. It is exactly the same in the cooperative model. The teacher has the responsibility to maintain a propitious atmosphere in the classroom, so the students could continue to work in their group in order to fulfill the goal for that course. Teachers that working under this model, assign a particular question to the students who work in group, and provides them necessary tools to have a better understanding. Here is a sample question that a teacher could ask: What is Global Warning? Each group, after discussing on their own the question, has to present their result to the whole class for a final discussion.
Unlike the cooperative model, the teacher in the collaborative model comes up with any quantity, but would instead evaluate the progress of every group. The students also have the right to ask for additional materials like paper, video, suggestions, etc. if needed.
The collaborative teacher manifests a constant presence in the classroom while the group is working for any consultation .At the end, each group with the help would make a kind of evaluation in collaboration with the teacher. At this point, like the cooperation model, each group could decide to go back in work to have a better job.
In summary, both methods engage in a process of group activity. Some have a tendency to value the cooperative model because it is more structurally defined than the other one.

redo: Bio and Statement

My name is Jean-Michel; I am a math major with a minor Education. I pick math as my major because I love math. Math is an easily and enjoyable subject for me. I pick up the minor in education while in college, tutoring countless amount of students help me find the exact thing that I am going to do with my math degree. Since I came here in 2005 from Haiti, I have spent a good part of my time thinking and trying to figure out what I should do to become a math teacher in United States. How was I going to fulfill that dream that I had since I was child in third grade. I found many interesting things about the process of doing this efficiently. By reviewing what I had previously learned and accomplished in mathematics, for example; tutoring countless friends and peers with homework and studying for exams. Finally, I decided to register myself at Miami Dade College Education program to start on my career path in the educational field. I am taking the same approach that one of my closes friends has taken and become a math teacher in Illinois. I can hear my friend telling me “Sometimes I do not want to be a teacher because of the political parts of it but the students make it worth every moment of craziness”. At the end of the day I am in education to build a better tomorrow through a young generation. I particularly remember the sacrifice that I have to get this far in my educational journey at Miami Dade College. Knowing that teaching is a passion of mines and definitely assisting with my decision of becoming a teacher. Looking at the syllabus, I feel that this class will be an essential course in my education pursuit in education. I am looking forward to learning the fundamentals of education.

reflection 4

As an old saying goes: Instead of giving a hungry man a fish to eat, show that same man how to fish so he can eat a life time. In other words, if you want someone to obtain a skill and/or understand that skill, allow that person to learn the skill. Show and illustrate that skill in many ways so that person understands the process to show others. This is a way of applying inquiry-base learning. It requires the participation of an individual or group involving in the process of learning. Retaining the knowledge of a skill learned can last a life time and help generations to come. The main purpose of the inquiry-base learning is to ask questions in order to gain understanding and to become more informed as a student. In any educational system, students should be encouraged to ask question, to get involve in any activity or discussion that could help to improve their understanding of the subject matter. This method did not exist in my school system when I was a child in the 70’s. Asking question was considered a form of disrespect and that the teacher answer was always correct. In the Inquiry-base learning asking question is fundamental part of gaining knowledge and a foundation of a strong academic background. Technology makes it easier to obtain information 24 hours 7days a week. All this technology has made it almost unless to memorize any facts in any subject area. As teachers, we need to find a way to help student’s research information without the internet providing straight forward answer. We have to be able shape and train their minds as it was a habit or second nature to know how to research and want to research if given (or chosen). That’s what Inquiry process is about. By applying this process throughout our career as teachers, we can make a great positive impact to our students, then they can make in impact in the community and then to our society. Hopefully, this would make learning an enjoyable process that would encourage students to be share with others.

reflection 3

It is not easy to understand this day how things work. As technology advances, more questions need to be answered and more problems need to be solved. Our schools have a responsibility to make our student into a tool for the future. Our student has to be ready to face any challenges thrown their way, such as; making good discussion, reading between the lines, inventing something useful and not being afraid to ask questions and having a solution. Instead of working at our own pace, we need skillful people that work efficiently with other in any industrial. How could our school prepare student to face those challenges? It is easy. There are different models of learning that could help us achieve this goal. One of them are the constructivism theory. It is a model for learning where each student has to be involved in any realization. In this method, we pose a problem that students have to solve in their own manner. Unlike the behaviorism method where the teacher is centered in this method, teachers have to describe the process of how the student solves the problem. It is the teacher responsibility to describe what they want and how that the student obtain the information. Students have to work together to find a solution to the problem or situation given. We consider this process of learning as a plan of collaborating. The classroom should be designed to activate student to learning process and getting them involved. Each student is required to participate in every activity. Students in this method are considered as the base of knowledge or shapers of meaning.
